Dermal Fillers
Facial wrinkles become more prominent as we age. Wrinkles result from a combination of many factors including cellular changes that can occur over time, reduction of collagen, or damage caused by free radicals in the sun and the environment. Injection with neurotoxin is commonly used to treat forehead wrinkles, deep furrows between the eyebrows (frown lines), and the rays at the corner of your eyes (crows feet) as it blocks signals from nerves to facial muscles, causing muscles to relax and wrinkles to become faint or disappear.
Dermal fillers are gels that are injected under your skin, re-structuring your face. They are used in:
LIPS: Youthful lips that are plump and volumized lose elasticity and fullness over time, creating sagging or thinning lips. Whether aging has caused them to thin, or your lips have never had the volume you desire, you are not alone. Many people wish their lips were larger, more full. The lips are one of the most popular areas for dermal filler injections, that when performed correctly by a skillful injector, will plump the lips for a gentle, natural looking result. Lip Augmentations are one of our specialties at SOAR Wellness and one of the services we are highly known for.
Cheeks: Over time, our cheeks start to flatten, and the skin may begin to sag, causing the "sunken cheeks" look that tend to make people feel older than they really are. This natural loss of volume in the cheek area is what the experts call age-related midface volume loss. Injections can restore round contours and produce those sought-after high cheekbones that people consider markers of natural beauty.
Tear Trough: For many patients, both young and old, filler treatments to the under eye area are a safe and effective alternative to surgery. Many patients are unhappy with the shadows and depressions that occur under the eyes. This can be due to genetics, but is also a common sign of aging. While a tear trough deformity can be corrected surgically by repositioning fat in the lower eyelid, treatment with filler has become a popular alternative. Many patients prefer a non-invasive approach, in order to avoid the risks and potential complications of surgery. Treatment with a dermal fillers can provide a patient with a long-lasting natural result, often greater than one year, with minimal downtime.
Nasolabial Folds/ Smile Lines: For most of us, smile lines – also known as nasolabial folds – are nothing to smile about. These lines and creases run from the side of the nose to the corner of the mouth, and are the result of the loss of facial volume and skin elasticity as we age. They can make you look older, tired, or unhappy – even though you feel youthful inside.
Marionette Lines: Even if you have never heard of marionette lines, you probably know what they are. These lines that run straight downwards from the corners of the mouth can make you look unhappy. Marionette lines form as facial volume begins to deplete and deeper creases begin to form below the mouth.
Vertical Lip Lines (aka: Smoker’s Lines”): Time is working against your skin’s appearance. Every time you speak, eat, drink from a straw, smoke, kiss, or smile, your skin remembers and lines eventually begin to show on your face. The vertical lines above and below your lips can be difficult to hide with makeup and are often highlighted when a bright shade of lipstick bleeds into them.
Jowls: The folds on either side of our chin. Facial volume loss associated with the aging process results in sagging of the skin in other facial areas, and leaves the pre-jowl fold area hollow.
Jawline: There are many reasons to undergo jaw enhancement. Enhancing the jaw line with dermal filler injections can give you a more youthful appearance by filling in loose skin. By smoothing the contours of the jaw, it increases the definition of this area. Jaw enhancement can also decrease the appearance of jowls, or hanging folds of fat and skin drooping beneath the jawline. Jaw enhancement may be right for you if you’ve always felt you had a weak jaw line, or if you’ve begun to notice signs of aging in this area of your face. Many candidates are men wishing for a more chiseled jaw or women who wish their jaw looked softer and more feminine.
Hands: Many people wonder how to get rid of hand wrinkles. Now you can improve the appearance of your aging hands with dermal fillers. They help restore a more youthful appearance to hands, it is a quick, in-office treatment, it reduces the appearance of tendons and veins, and delivers smooth, natural-looking results that last up to a year in most patients.
Before Treatment: Discontinue the use of anti-inflammatory drugs and excessive alcohol. Additionally, eat pineapple, it has a lot of healthy stuff in it including a natural anti-inflammatory, bromelain, which can counter bruising.
After Treatment: Swelling, redness, and tenderness will occur after your treatment and usually resolves within 72 hours. Cold compresses may be used immediately after treatment, and for the first 24 hours, to reduce swelling; no bending forward (no downward dogs!) for four hours. Avoid touching the treated area within 6 hours of treatment so you do not accidentally injure your skin. After that, the area can be gently washed with soap and water. Until there is no redness or swelling, avoid exposure of the treated area to intense heat (sun lamp or sun bathing) or extreme cold weather. Avoid taking aspirin and other non-steroidal anti-inflammatory medications, St. John’s wort, and high doses of Vitamin E supplements for one week after treatment. These agents may increase the risk of bruising at the injection sites. Avoid aesthetic lasers, microdermabrasion, or IPL over areas with dermal fillers for a minimum of two weeks after treatment.
